Discussion List Help/Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Discussion List?

A discussion list is a way to communicate immediately with other MPMA members through e-mail without having to enter or update their e-mail addresses. If you need help or suggestions about an issue affecting your organization, send an e-mail to the discussion list. Similarly, if you want to help others by providing information about an upcoming event or education workshop, pass that information along to the discussion list as well. The goal is to have an open forum so that everyone can help and learn from each other.

How to Sign Up
Note: The discussion list is a members-only benefit.
1. Click on the Join/Login link for either the Industry Professionals List or the Educators List.

2. Enter your email address name and password. Then click “Subscribe.” (Ignore the bottom information for now.)

3. You will see a page that indicates that your subscription request has been received.

4. You will then receive an email asking you to confirm your subscription request. Simply hit reply and send (do not change the subject line.)

5. Within 24 hours you will receive a welcome e-mail, indicating your subscription has been approved. Be sure to write down your username and password in case you need to check past messages or change your account settings. You are now ready to begin sending and receiving messages.

How to Send a Message to the Discussion List

• If you have subscribed to the Industry Professionals List, simply send an e-mail to industry_professionals@lists.mpma.com. There is no need to login. The message will be distributed to the group immediately.

• If you have subscribed to the Educators List, simply send an e-mail to educators@lists.mpma.com. There is no need to login. The message will be distributed to the group immediately.

How to Check Past Messages/Responses

This feature is helpful to see what has already been discussed and avoid repeating a question. It can also be a valuable research tool.

• If you have subscribed to the Industry Professionals List, go to http://lists.mpma.com/mailman/listinfo/industry_professionals. Click on “Industry Professionals Archives.” Enter your username and password. You will then be able to view past messages by subject, author or date.

• If you have subscribed to the Educators List, go to http://lists.mpma.com/mailman/listinfo/educators. Click on “Educators Archives.” Enter your username and password. You will then be able to view past messages by subject, author or date.

How to Retrieve Your Username and Password

There are two ways you can retrieve your username and password.

First, you can reference the welcome e-mail you received. If you subscribed to the Industry Professionals List, it would have come from industry_professionals-bounces@lists.mpma.com. If you subscribed to the Educators List, it would have come from educators-bounces@lists.mpma.com.

If you are a member of the Educators List, go to http://lists.mpma.com/mailman/listinfo/educators

2. Scroll down to the heading “Industry_Professionals Subscribers” or “Educators Subscribers.” At the bottom of the page, enter your e-mail address click “Unsubscribe or edit options.”

3. The next page will prompt you to enter your password. (If you don’t remember it, you can choose to have it sent to you and repeat the first three steps.)

4. Upon entering your password, you will be allowed to change your subscription options. For example, you may choose to receive e-mails in one daily batch rather than immediately after they are sent.
