Minnesota Manufactured Day at the State Fair
Celebrating Community, Careers and Cowboy Hats

On Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at the Minnesota State Fair, the corner of Wright and Underwood transformed into a lively showcase of innovation, creativity, and hometown pride. Minnesota Manufactured Day drew crowds of families, people of all ages, and educators, all eager to discover the possibilities of modern manufacturing, and the day didn’t disappoint!

Powered by People

The event came to life thanks to more than 100 volunteers. From greeting visitors and guiding them through hands-on activities to stamping activity passports and answering questions, their energy carried the day. The collective effort reflected exactly what manufacturing is all about: collaboration, problem-solving, and building something bigger together.

Learning by Doing

Five interactive stations offered fairgoers the chance to step directly into the world of manufacturing

  • Engineer It invited young builders to tinker, design, and test their ideas with Legos.
  • Save a Life offered individuals an opportunity to build a medical device and test their skills in the game of Operation.
  • From Idea to Reality showcased how products are imagined, designed, and produced in real-time using 3D printing.
  • Step Inside MFG transported visitors into a virtual reality experience of today’s manufacturing workspaces
  • CNC Milling customized dog tags gave a personalized demonstration of CAD/CAM and production machining.

These stations weren’t just demonstrations; they were sparks of possibility. For many individuals it was their first look at careers in manufacturing that combine technology, creativity, and purpose.

A Hat that Stole the Show

Of course, no State Fair experience would be complete without a memorable giveaway. This year, the bright blue foam cowboy hats stole the spotlight. Stamped with the phrase “I Am Minnesota Manufactured”, they quickly became a symbol of the day. Soon, fairgoers could be spotted across the fairgrounds wearing them with pride, turning a playful keepsake into a powerful statement about the state’s manufacturing industry.

Beyond the Booth

By evening, thousands of people had passed through the Minnesota Manufactured booth. They left with more than cowboy hats and stamped passports; they left with a new understanding of how manufacturing fuels Minnesota’s economy and offers a future full of opportunity. Parents talked with volunteers about pathways for their kids, young people saw firsthand how science and creativity meet on the factory floor, and industry leaders strengthened their connection to the community.

Minnesota Manufactured Day at the State Fair was more than a one-day success. It was a reminder that when community, education, and industry come together, the result is powerful: curiosity sparked, futures inspired, and a little bit of cowboy-hat magic sprinkled in along the way.
