MPMA member, Alexandria Industries has invested in a new aluminum extrusion press that will be used to make aluminum components that go into customer products people see and use every day.

Made by Presezzi Extrusion Group (Vimercate, MB-Italy), the press will allow Alexandria Industries to increase its aluminum extrusion capabilities, extrude more complex product features, and hold tighter tolerances, while utilizing a variety of alloys.

Alexandria Industries will gain an extra 30 percent in extrusion capacity.

“By combining the latest in aluminum extrusion technology with the best employees, we will continue to lead our industry,” said Tom Schabel, CEO, Alexandria Industries. “This investment also aligns with our company vision and commitment to excellence. The new system will provide robust extruded aluminum components for our customers, while providing us continued business growth into the future.”

Alexandria Industries will work with Presezzi Extrusion to customize the press to meet specific needs of the company. The press will be equipped with the newest automation and mechanical technology:

  • A state-of-the-art, magnetic billet heating system; the first in the U.S. and fifth in the world
  • The ability to push harder alloys, providing the company access to new market opportunities
  • Automation, quench, and safety management systems, increasing extrusion production 30 percent
  • An automated log handling and washing system, increasing production efficiencies and extrusion quality

“We are delighted to be working with Alexandria Industries to provide our latest advancements in extrusion system technologies,” said Bruno Donada, area manager, Presezzi Extrusion Group. The company’s collaborative culture fits perfectly with the way we run our business. This new partnership will generate business opportunities in the high-value aluminum extrusion industry for both companies.”

A Building Expansion

To accommodate the new equipment along with its soft Kevlar handling system, the company will add 12,000 square feet of space to its manufacturing facility located. A groundbreaking celebration took place May 14. Construction will begin soon thereafter.

DEED Job Creation Grant

Alexandria Industries has also been awarded $175,000 from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) from its Job Creation Fund.

The project will add a new extrusion press and handling system and create an additional 7,300 square feet of manufacturing space and 11,300 square feet of office space. The total project cost is $16,433,694. The company expects to create 14 jobs within the next three years with an average cash wage of $15.63 an hour.
