Times might be different due to COVID-19, but MPMA members can still participate in the 2020 Minnesota Statewide Tour of Manufacturing by offering virtual tours.

  • Why: This is an opportunity for schools, families, and the general public to discover the innovative and high-tech world of modern manufacturing.
  • When: Tours take place all of October, however, most tours occur October 1 - 7 during Minnesota Manufacturing Week.
  • Get Started: Download a manufacturer checklist for some options to get you started.

Manufacturing is crucial to the strength of Minnesota’s economy. It provides about 11 percent of the state’s gross domestic product, pays wages 16 percent higher than the state average and employs more than 321,000 people. Even though today’s manufacturing jobs are good paying, hi tech careers, many still have a negative perception of manufacturing. To overcome this perception, manufacturers throughout the state are inviting the public to visit their modern facilities. To find a tour in your area, visit The Minnesota Statewide Tour of Manufacturing at

Tour attendees will experience a modern manufacturing world filled with computer-controlled machines and skilled workers working side by side. Gone are the days of dark, dingy assembly lines. Rather, you will find bright, clean, safe environments filled with activity. Attendees will see firsthand how STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills are put into practice every day in today’s manufacturing industry and gain an understanding of the variety of promising careers available.

Nearly every aspect of our daily lives is somehow impacted by manufacturing. It’s no wonder that U.S. manufacturing is growing. Over the past 25 years, U.S. manufactured goods exports have quadrupled, while in Minnesota, manufacturing jobs have increased by more than 10 percent since 2010. To continue this growth, manufacturers need teams of skilled employees. The Minnesota Statewide Tour of Manufacturing exposes attendees to gratifying career opportunities in this industry.
