Job Description:
Clow Stamping Company is seeking an experienced Toolmaker to construct, maintain, and repair tooling and fixtures used in the production of parts for OEMs. This hands-on role involves cutting, assembling, diagnosing, and repairing tooling issues, operating toolroom equipment such as mills, lathes, drill presses, and grinders, and building, developing, or reverse engineering complex form tools.
What You Will Do
Build, assemble, and repair tooling and fixtures ranging from basic blanks and pierce tools to complex form, extrusion, and press brake tools
Fabricate specialized tools such as chamfer tools, form tools, pierce-after-form tools, and machining and welding fixtures
Diagnose tooling and fixture issues and perform in-process and next-run repairs
Support production by troubleshooting tooling-related issues in the press, including adjustments, shimming, and modifications
Prepare new jobs by cutting, deburring, and processing tooling plates and tool steel, including preparation for heat treatment
Cut and fabricate shop tools such as rails, parallels, brake press tools, quick-set plates, and bottoming blocks
Collaborate with tool design and production teams to develop, modify, or reverse engineer complex or problematic tooling
Support special projects, automation-related tooling modifications, and tooling obsolescence activities
Assist with resolving First Article and DMR-related tooling issues as needed
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience building, repairing, and troubleshooting tooling and fixtures in a manufacturing environment
Strong working knowledge of forming operations and tooling principles
Ability to independently read and interpret complex blueprints and specifications
Proficiency operating manual mills, lathes, grinders, saws, drill presses, and inspection equipment
Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and troubleshoot issues with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
Tool and die experience
Formal training in Machine Tool Technology or related technical discipline
Experience reverse engineering tooling or development parts
Exposure to EDM or jig bore operations
Physical & Work Environment
Indoor, climate-controlled production environment
Extended periods of standing
Regular pushing, pulling, and lifting of materials ranging from 50 lbs to 100 lbs
Work requires sustained attention to detail and advanced problem-solving
Moderate safety risk typical of a toolroom and production environment
